First Race…exhausted from a 100 yard crawl under barbed wire.

That dude right there?  Crawling under barbed wire?  That’s me.  First obstacle course race.  February 14th, 2015.  That’s right – I signed my girlfriend, Kelly, and I up for our first race on fuckin’ Valentines Day because I’m awesome stupid like that.  Or am I?

1 year prior to this, I had just started going to the gym after a hiatus of, oh, I don’t know…my entire life?  I was never an athlete.  As a matter of fact, I hated physical activity.  I would easily choose a Netflix marathon over even walking around the block.  Unless there was pizza around the block.  Then, well, maybe I’d walk – if my car wouldn’t start.  Or for Chinese food…definitely for Chinese.  Anyway, I digress.

The point is that I was pretty damned out of shape.  Kelly, on the other hand, had been taking no prisoners in her quest for a healthier life and weight loss.  She was running regularly, hitting the gym, and started going to boot camp.  I actually kind of felt like a third wheel to this new lifestyle that she had adopted.  I started and stopped exercising and dieting more times than I cared to remember and here she was actually enjoying what she was doing and seeing results.  So one day it hit me: I had to find some form of exercise that I would enjoy that didn’t necessarily feel like exercise.   That’s a pretty tall order.

Throughout my blog, I’ll be sharing my journey to a new lifestyle.  Stay tuned for bouts of oddball training, hilarity, and a bit of educational information.
